Hiya,
I only answered the “essentially” part of your comment because I thought the rest was answered in the article with all the links?
Unfortunately, I have heard people arguing this point on Facebook and Twitter, which is how I found this article. I’m writing my own and research from others. I’ve only read a few of Jessica’s, but in my research, they’re fairly spot on.
At the end of the day, there’s always a loophole to any law. While it may be complicated, there are workarounds. Someone will start an abortion day bus trip from Alabama to Florida…I promise you this…just like the daily abortion ferry from Ireland to England. And states cannot do a damn thing about it. You are not a CITIZEN of a state, only a resident. You can leave, do whatever, come back and not be prosecuted. You can leave to buy liquor. A cop can chase you to the state line…and that’s it.
While I’ve no doubt that all of this will ruin women’s lives because many cannot afford the money and time it’ll take for workarounds, someone will make it happen for others.
And the rest? Well, 1 in 6 pregnancy-related deaths were self abortions pre-Roe v Wade. That’s WHY it was passed; to save lives. The churches actually formed a joint coalition to push for safe abortions because it was THAT bad…including the Catholic church. If a female can’t get a safe abortion, she’ll have an unsafe one. :(
Sadly, if we leave this law as-is, it’s open to females being questions and even prosecuted in the case of miscarriage. America is a country of laws, not morals. Precedents matter.
In Florida, they just passed a law for judges to retire at age 70. This is a bad precedent because it’s just a matter of time before they raise the retirement age for ALL of us to 70.
